Are there people who should NOT use low temperature saunas?

D: Who might this treatment be unsuitable for?

Low temperature sauna requires extra caution if you have a metal implant

You have to be extremely cautious of anyone who has a bodily implant. Now that’s only because if it’s metal (plastic is fine) it can heat up. You have to cover in a double thick towel so that the local area is not absorbing heat.

D: When you’re talking about these implants, can you give us some examples of what they might be?

Titanium implant in the ankle particularly is the scariest one because that area definitely has to be wrapped because there is so little if any flesh between the metal and the skin. There really just the thickness of the skin and that’s all. If it’s a pacemaker, it’s fine because it’s deep enough. If it’s a cosmetic breast implant, it’s fine because it doesn’t absorb the heat like that. If it’s a knee implant, sometimes it’s a little closer to the heaters the way our saunas are designed and you have to put a towel around the knees. Or a shoulder implant. Spinal implants are generally fine because of the way our heaters are designed because you’re leaning against the wall and you’re not getting direct heat on them. So there’s a caution around that. It doesn’t mean you can’t go in it. It just means we have to be aware of it and tell you how to deal with it.

Low temperature sauna is not appropriate if you are (or might become) pregnant

Pregnant women should never go in a sauna. Although our saunas are technically low heat and my own wife was in it while she was pregnant in her first trimester and there were no problems at all. We would never have done it intentionally so if you’re pregnant or trying to get pregnant, you should avoid it. Because heating up the fetus during the first trimester can be disastrous for brain development. And that’s a very strong caution.

But other than that, there’s really nobody who can’t benefit from it and there’s nothing really that can go wrong. The only thing you have to watch for is you have to rehydrate with electrolyte salts: potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium.

And we actually offer it for free. We give free sample of it, a month’s worth to every customer who buys the units from Sauna Ray because we want to drive home the importance of rehydrating. If not chronically depleting your body of too many minerals.

And that’s just like being out in the sun on a really hot day and feeling weak or getting a headache from it. That’s your body sweating out the minerals. For example, if you’ve ever been in the tropics. People drink coconut because coconut is chock full of potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium. The key thing that people have to watch out for is the rehydration If that’s not available naturally for you, we have this stuff we give out to our customers.

For people with conditions that make even low temperature sauna uncomfortable Sauna Ray Saunas have built in “fresh air” window

And the other thing to people who are intolerant to heat. Let’s say they have in addition to psoriasis they have chronic fatigue or they have a heart condition or high blood pressure. We build a functional window into the door of every sauna so they can get fresh air into their face. And that’s how you can regulate your time in there and insure that you’re not overheating yourself in any way or making yourself comfortable.
