D:
Deirdre, can you tell us a little bit about your background?
Prior
to the year 2000, I had been a registered dietitian for 15 years. I had had psoriasis
at that point for 30 years. I spent two months hospitalized in Dallas
and covered in coal tar and did the combination of that with the light
treatment. I had varying disabling degrees of psoriasis for three decades. And
then by 2002, my hands had gotten to the point to where I could not get my
hands around my steering wheel anymore. I couldn't pick up glasses and get my
hands around glasses and drink. I had to pick glasses and drink with the
fingertips of both hands.
And
a light went off in my head one day when I realized that by not getting my hand
around my steering wheel and driving with my knees and my hands through the
steering wheel that I was taking everyone's life in danger and that I was going
to need to do something else besides just the topical steroids and treatments
that I had used for decades.
